Catherine Ruane grew up in southern California. Her formal training as an artist began at San Diego State University where she earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in painting and printmaking. A year later she studied Renaissance art in Florence, Italy and acquired classical training in hand-pulled limited edition printmaking. Upon her return to the States, she relocated to L.A., CA to attend Otis Institute of Art and to complete a second MFA. Catherine then continued her study with classes in Art History at U.C.L.A. and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She currently lives in Buckeye, Arizona with her husband and two sons and teaches drawing and painting at Paradise Valley Community College.
